NCL Innovations facilitated the participation of 18
students from NCL in the CSIR’s Fifth Technology Led Entrepreneurship Program
(TLEP) run by IIM-Bangalore at IICT-Hyderabad during 2-28 June 2008. NCL’s
contingent was the largest in the Program.
NCL Innovations again actively promoted the TLEP Program in early 2009
to send 15 applications from NCL for the 6th TLEP scheduled for 1-26
June 2009.

NCL students also participated and got short-listed
in national level business plan competitions during 2008-2009. NCL Innovations
staff guided students in the preparation of the business plans and
presentations to the extent possible.

Feb 2009: The Venture Center worked with NCL Technology and Entrepreneurship
Club to facilitate the participation of a team of 17 students from NCL in the
E-Summit at IIT-Bombay.

Dec 2008: Young entrepreneur, Kranthi Kiran Vistakula (CEO, Dhama Apparel
Innovation Pvt. Ltd.) spoke about and gave a demonstration of his technology
innovation in the ‘Evening with Entrepreneur’ series of the NCL Technology and
Entrepreneurs Club. Kranthi was a first prize winner
of the India Innovation Pioneers Challenge 2008, gold medalist at the Lockheed
Martin Innovators Competition 2008 and a winner of the MIT IK Business Plan
Competition 2005.

Feb 2009: Rakesh Singh took over from Sarvesh Soni as the President of
NCL-TEC.

Sep 2008 – 27 Feb 2009: The Venture Center along with NCL Technology and
Entrepreneurship Club organized Concepto 2008 – A
Technology Idea Competition – which was open to NCL and IISER students. The
prizes were distributed to prize winners on the National Science day on 27 Feb
2009. As preparation for this competition, two mentoring sessions were arranged
wherein NCL technologists shared their real-world experiences developing and
commercializing technology. Dr MG Kulkarni, Dr Prakash Wadgaonkar and Dr Vidya Gupta spoke at the first mentoring session on 20 Oct
2008. Dr D Srinivas, Mr
Sanjay Nene and Dr V Premnath spoke at the second mentoring session on 7 Nov
2008. The NCL
Research Foundation (NCL-RF) agreed to support prizes for Concepto
2008 – Technology Idea Competition. NCL-RF agreed to give prizes to the extent
of Rs 70,000. Prizes worth Rs 12500 were eventually distributed.

Aug 2008: NCL
Technology and Entrepreneurship Club co-organized (along with GMCC and Indian
Patent Office) a 2-day workshop on Intellectual Property and Patenting. NCL-TEC
arranged for waiver of registration fee for 15 NCL students. Participants
received certificates of participation from the Indian Patent Office.

June 2008: Prof George Whitesides (Harvard
University) spoke on “Commercializing New Science” at a talk organized by NCL
technology and Entrepreneurship Club.

May 2008: The NCL Technology and Entrepreneurship Club organized 2 lectures on
Intellectual Property and Patent Law/Procedures by Mrs
Srividya Ravi (Gnanlex Hermeutics).

2007-08

During the year, NCL Innovations actively promoted
CSIR’s Technology Led Entrepreneurship Program (TLEP) run by IIM-Bangalore
amongst the student community. Consequently, NCL students subscribed to the
2008 TLEP Technology Led Entrepreneurship Program in large numbers (with 21
candidates applying from NCL).

NCL students also participated and got short-listed
in national level business plan competitions during 2007-2008. NCL Innovations
staff guided students in the preparation of the business plans and
presentations.

10 Feb 2008: A team from NCL (organized by NCL-TEC) attended the Entrepreneurship
Summit at IIT-Bombay on 10 Feb 2008.

9 Jan 2008: NCL-TEC began its operations with
fervor. NCL-TEC organized a well attended talk by Prof David Secher (ex-Head of Research Services Division at University
of Cambridge, Currently CEO of Praxis) on the topic of Technology Transfer on 9
Jan 2008. NCL-TEC organized a talk by Prof David Secher
on 9 Jan 2008. Prof Secher spoke on “Technology
transfer – Some trends in the UK and USA”

Jan-Feb 2008: NCL-TEC adopted a formal constitution
and created a 7-member founding management team led by Elangovan
Mani as the President. The NCL-TEC management team put together a budget and a
fund raising document. NCL-TEC is currently running a blog and a mailing list.
