About ETA

The Early Translation Accelerator (ETA) programme at Venture Center, supported by DBT-BIRAC, aims to help successful development and scale-up of innovative technologies from academia and research institutions across India having:

  • Proof of concept established and in early stages of technology validation (TRL 4 or 5) as per BIRAC’s TRL
  • Feasibility for technology development and scale-up into higher TRLs (TRL 7 or 8)
  • Market potential for catalysing commercialisation through Industrial partnership

ETA Partners & Responsibilities

Role of ETA

  • Scouting for lab-validated technologies with market relevance at TRL 4-5 from academic and research institutions
  • Identifying industrial partners for commercialising technologies
  • Planning and management of technology scale-up and developmental activities for successful translation
  • Facilitating selection of technologies by ETA committee and grant from BIRAC up to 90% project cost (cost ceiling at Rs.2 Crores/ Project)
  • Handling technology demonstration and technology transfer activities for successful commercialisation by industrial partners.

Focus Areas

The ETA at Venture Center is focused on scale-up and development of industrial biotechnology based products such as actives, intermediates, excipients, additives or finished products for use in the consumer goods segments

Cosmeceuticals
Skin Care
Personal Care
Functional Foods & Beverages
Nutraceuticals
Health & Wellness
Household Care

De-risking As Funded Project

Innovative technologies with focus on industrial biotechnology having applications in consumer goods market segments will be evaluated by an ETA selection committee. Preference will be given to technologies having industry partners on board for commercialisation. Selected projects will be operationalized with funds from BIRAC for translational development and de-risking in 18 months.

Desired Outcomes

-> Successful translation of laboratory validated research and technologies.

-> Facilitating technology de-risking as a focused project for catalysing commercialisation.

-> Addressing sustainable product requirements in the market with novel innovations.

-> Fostering a robust innovation ecosystem in India by promoting collaboration between academia, research institutions and industries.
